Implementation Commission on Nursing (IICON) to increase the number of baccalaureate nurse graduates. The college is
recognized by different governing bodies in Illinois.

The Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing's program is the first in Illinois as the school was first established in 1935.
Currently, it has more than 5,000 alumni scattered around the nation rendering competent nursing services. It is

The Saint Xavier University School of Nursing was first established in 1935. It was the first academy that was given
accreditation by the state of Illinois. Specifically, the accreditation was focused on the baccalaureate nursing program.
To date, the bachelor’s and master’s degree courses are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
(CCNE).

The North Park University was founded in 1891 by the Evangelical Covenant Church. Today the university still defines itself
as a Christian university, committed to relating faith in Jesus Christ to the aims of higher education. The NOrth Park University
started offering baccalaureate degrees in nursing back in 1960, when it was still called the North Park College. After a
few years, the School of Nursing was already established. The University started out with only nine nursing graduate in
1968. Now, this number is a totally different figure with the present number of nursing registrants.

The academy is the largest and one of the most famous Catholic universities in the United States of America. It is also
the first Catholic school in the US that has offered courses for nurses starting in 1920s. In 1948, the nursing
department proper started with the introduction of a baccalaureate completion program for RNs. Five years later, the
graduate program in Nursing was also established.

The first associate degree in nursing program was pioneered in the Truman College in 1964. Over 3000 nurses have already gone
through this two-years-long program to receive their RN certification. The educational program gives students a basic knowledge
of general education, social and biological sciences, nursing theory, and actual care of patients. The students receive
learning experience in clinical settings under the guidance of masters degree nursing faculty members, and are well
prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nursing

The Kennedy King College hosts two nursing programs: the practical nursing program, and the registered nurse program. The
practical nursing program (LPN) can be availed for one year equivalent to three semesters and a 26 credit hour
certificate program. Once a student completes the program, he or she becomes eligible to sit in the NCLEX-PN. The RN program
gives its students an associate degree. Practical nurses may enter this program in an advanced standing after passing a
proficiency exam.
