The mission of the Nursing program within the Lawson State Community is to prepare individuals in the art of caring in a high touch and high technology learning environment to be employed in the community as registered nurses, licensed practical nurses or certified nursing assistants. Students are facilitated in developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for successful practice and are encouraged to pursue advanced education.

Herzing University, Birmingham Campus

The Birmingham Campus of Herzing University offers 3 programs of nursing studies: the first program offers a diploma in Practical Nursing, the second is an LPN to RN bridge program offering an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree and Registered Nursing studies for those who already have a Practical Nursing license, and an RN to BSN bridge program offering a bachelor of Nursing degree for registered nurses. The third program is offered also online.

Jefferson State Community College

Jefferson College has recently discontinued its Practical Nursing program, and is left with only the Registered Nursing program which offers an Associate of Nursing degree. This program is a five term program, including summers, which combines general education and nursing courses in a sequence that allows the student to develop the basic skills for nursing practice.
